The North Central Comprehensive Center (NCCC) serves Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming; providing technical assistance and capacity building supports to these state education agencies (SEAs). Serving these North Central states poses both great opportunities, as well as unique challenges. Driving through the states you witness nature’s bounty in Wyoming’s Yellowstone National Park, the badlands of South Dakota, Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota, and the vast farms and ranches of Nebraska. According to the U.S. Census (2010), these four states have among the lowest populations in the country, yet, are geographically among the largest. Most communities are rural and remote, with student populations ranging from 11 students up to 45,613 students. This region also includes sixteen American Indian reservations. Operated by McREL International, the NCCC proudly supports these SEAs with implementing their state level initiatives by providing high quality technical assistance, building collaborative relationships, supporting SEAs to make systemic changes, and disseminating research-based practices to build state and local capacity.
North Central Comprehensive Center staff members are knowledgeable educators and researchers whose experience and expertise combines to meet the unique challenges faced by rural schools and districts in the NCCC region – Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming.
The North Central Comprehensive Center partners with the state departments of education to:
• Provide high-quality technical assistance
• Build collaborative relationships
• Support state and local educational agencies in making systemic changes
• Disseminate research-based practices to build local and state capacity
